Whether to crop or not to crop is a question I go back and forth on, but Audrey Hepburn’s iconic look with the cropped tights and ballet flats will have me going back to cropped leg wear every time. Let’s face it though, unless you’re a six foot tall catwalk model, weird lengths like midi skirts, boyfriend shorts and cropped jeans are styles that are fraught with perils. Cropped jeans have the tendency to cut you right off, and why the heck would you want that? But styled ‘right’, I think there’s nothing more flattering and chic. Here are my tips on how to wear cropped jeans.
The shoes
The shoe choice is of course everything. I recommend ankle boots, pumps and converse. The first one is obvious. Cropped jeans are made for wearing with boots, either to tuck neatly inside, or leave a slight gap of skin in between, which will magically make your legs look longer. Heels will always look good with cropped jeans, but not necessarily ankle strap styles, as these are also notorious for reducing height. If you do choose flat shoes, opt for narrow, pointed styles, nothing too chunky. The aim is to make those pins look like they go on and on. I walked the line a bit with these slightly chunky Cabin & Cove mules a while back, but I think the height of the heel made it work.
The top
A slouchy top will help make your legs look skinnier and longer in comparison. Predictably, here I am in my boyfriend’s shirt. Loose fit t-shirts and chunky knits are also perfecto choices.
